At Goizueta Impact Investors, we stand at the forefront of a transformative movement. As a MBA student-run investment initiative, our mission is to ignite social change through impact investing, while educating the Goizueta and larger Emory community about the power of socially responsible capital. As we embark on the 2023-2024 academic year, our focus intensifies on providing short-term debt financing to social enterprises in the Atlanta area and engaging in equity investment through the prestigious Turner MBA Impact Investing Network and Training (MIINT) case competition.

In today's world, where Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) metrics are vital for investment risk management, GII offers a unique platform for those interested in transitioning to the buy side of asset management or private equity. The MIINT Team's Journey: Exploring the Wharton ESG Initiative
A highlight of our journey this year is the MINT Team's participation in the Wharton ESG Initiative. This initiative offers an unparalleled opportunity for our students to access Wharton Canvas training modules. These modules are designed to sharpen your skills in evaluating startups from an impact investing perspective, covering areas like investment thesis/strategy creation, bias in sourcing, assessing business and impact potential, and understanding investment terms and structures. Our teams are not just learning; they are actively screening and sourcing potential leads, setting the stage for meticulous due diligence before pitching their selected company at Wharton against over 30 universities globally.
Training for Tomorrow: Preparing Students for ESG-Conscious Investment Careers
Our focus is on the strategic asset allocation for an ESG-conscious investor. This initiative, new to Emory in 2023-2024, is ideal for students eyeing careers in wealth, asset, or portfolio management. It offers the chance to interact with cutting-edge products in the impact investing market, testing skills to meet both impact and financial goals. Remarkably, no prior degree or professional background in finance is required, ensuring inclusivity and diversity in perspectives.
Extending Beyond Academia: Community Partnerships and Real-World Impact
GII's initiatives extend beyond the classroom. We are collaborating with the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta and the Reinvestment Fund (RF) - a CDFI that has deployed $2.7 billion in investments, including projects in Georgia. Our partnership with the undergraduate Emory Impact Investing Group (EIIG) is another highlight, offering hands-on experience in real investments. With over $250K in combined capital, our clubs engage in market research, investment due diligence, and more. And watch out for a significant impact investing event in April, co-hosted by GII and EIIG.
GoATL Fund Partnership: Driving Impactful Investment in the Atlanta Community
Our association with The GoATL Fund epitomizes our commitment to impactful investment. This partnership with The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta involves two Impact Investing funds – The GoATL Community Capacity Fund and the GoATL Economic Inclusion Fund. This spring, we welcome four fellows to our GoATL cohort, who will engage with investors, participate in board meetings, and contribute to shaping this partnership.
